What is Shoes Off Lunch? It's a unique lifestyle program we have designed just so you can train your body to create the "Relaxation Response" it needs to maintain wellness.
How does Shoes Off Lunch Work? You show up and join us in whatever practice we have going. Sessions last from 20-30 minutes. Skip the hassle and time it take to undress—just kick off your shoes and join in. If you want to plan ahead to participate in your favorite relaxation method, you can rely on us to repeat the following schedule every Tuesday through Thursday as follows:
Tuesdays — Breathwork and Movement | Beginning at 11:00 AM
Wednesdays — Meditation | Beginning at 12:00 PM
Thursdays — Stretching | Beginning at 1:00 PM
We invite you to enter our serene environment. Take a few deep breaths. Do some gentle stretching. Sink into your body and let your mind take a break. Tap into the gentleness that is your heart and allow yourself to unwind. This is time for you to relax. If you want, you may also bring your lunch, borrow a book and sit outside on our patio.
How will Shoes Off Lunch improve my well-being? Most stress experts recommend setting aside at least 10-20 minutes a day for your relaxation practice. If you need or want even greater stress relief, aim for 30 to 60 minutes each day. Practicing regularly will train your body to create the "Relaxation Response." You will get so good at creating it, you will even handle stressful situations better, with less effort.
How does Shoes Off Lunch engage and train the body's "Relaxation Response"? When stress overwhelms your nervous system, your body is flooded with chemicals that prepare you for "fight or flight." While the stress response can be lifesaving in emergency situations where you need to act quickly, it wears your body down when constantly activated by the stresses of everyday life.
No one can avoid all stress. The good news is that you can counteract it by creating the "Relaxation Response." You can learn to do this through practice and will become able to drop into a state of deep rest whenever you want. You will recognize the feeling as the polar opposite of the stress response. The relaxation response puts the brakes on stress and brings your body and mind back into a state of equilibrium.
It is worth noting that the relaxation response does not get activated simply by lying on the couch or by sleeping. Instead, it requires a mentally active process that leaves the body relaxed, calm and focused.
How will I know that Shoes Off Lunch is working? You will know you have activated the relaxation response because you will feel better, as indicated by these common results:
- Heart rate decreases
- Breathing becomes slower and deeper
- Blood pressure drops or stabilizes
- Muscles relax
- Aches and pains diminish; your body begins to heal
